“As It Burns”

Entertaining Power Co. Limited presents the thrilling drama “As It Burns,” which delves into the mysterious aftermath of a late-night apartment explosion. Detective Ngai Wan, portrayed by actor Ray Lui, begins investigating the incident and discovers the charred body of Yin Ching, played by Stephy Tang Lai-yan. As the story unfolds, Wan uncovers a web of secrets surrounding Ching, her deceased mother, and the enigmatic Lo Chi-Fung, portrayed by Jasper Liu. With unexpected twists and hidden truths, this thrilling drama will keep audiences on the edge of their seats.

“FILMART has always attracted distributors from around the world, making it an intensive yet enjoyable market,” says Angus Chan, director at Entertaining Power Co. Limited. “In 2024, we estimate there will be more big-budget co-production films than 2023. We hope more territories will come back and release more Hong Kong films.”

“The Lyricist Wannabe”

Edko Films Ltd. presents “The Lyricist Wannabe,” a music-themed drama and comedy, which follows Law Wing-sze, a passionate high-school student who believes writing Cantopop is her calling. Directed by Norris Wong — and inspired by her life — the film depicts Law’s relentless pursuit of her dreams despite numerous setbacks. Chung Suet-ying, a real-life Cantopop lyricist, steps into the shoes of the film’s protagonist. With an exceptional cast including Eric Kot, Anson Chan, Sabrina Ng and Tang Lai-ying, the film explores the realities of chasing dreams and what is or is not always guaranteed.

“Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In”

Media Asia presents “Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In,” an action-packed film set in the 1980s in the enigmatic Kowloon Walled City, a Chinese enclave within British colonial Hong Kong. The story revolves around Chan Lok-kwun, a troubled youth who accidentally finds himself within the city’s chaotic walls. As he navigates this treacherous environment, he forms crucial friendships with Shin, Twelfth Master and AV. Together, they resist the villainous Mr. Big’s invasion. The film, filled with fierce battles and life lessons, showcases the determination to protect their sanctuary.

“Fly Me to the Moon”

Golden Scene Co. Ltd. will launch sales for “Fly Me to the Moon,” which follows Yuen’s journey as she moves to Hong Kong from Hunan at a young age to reunite with her father. However, their dreams of a perfect family are shattered by poverty, cultural barriers and her father’s drug addiction. Yuen and her younger sister strive to escape their harsh reality, leading to a poignant exploration of resilience and the pursuit of a better life.

“FILMART serves as a major gateway to reach China and Asia, offering an ideal marketplace to connect with smaller businesses that don’t typically attend markets in Europe or the U.S.,” says Candy Wong, assistant sales and acquisitions manager at Golden Scene Co. Ltd.

In 2024, Entertaining Power Co. Limited anticipates a surge in big-budget co-production films compared to the previous year. “With the emergence of a new generation of filmmakers infused with boundless creativity, we expect to witness a fresh wave of innovative content,” Chan of Entertaining Power Co. Limited adds. And according to Golden Scene Co. Ltd., initiatives like the Hong Kong-Europe-Asian Film Collaboration Funding Scheme will encourage more directors to embark on international co-productions to foster cross-cultural exchanges and expand the reach of Hong Kong cinema.

FILMART 2024 promises to be a captivating event, showcasing a diverse array of productions with intriguing storylines and talented casts through in-person exhibitions, thematic seminars, screenings and business matching opportunities. For industry professionals converging at this ideal marketplace, the event presents an opportunity to forge valuable connections and explore the latest content production trends. With the Hong Kong Trade Development Council’s commitment to promoting film and entertainment, FILMART continues to contribute to the growth and success of the industry on a global scale.
